SOME pretty common makeup mistakes can add years to your face — but fortunately, they’re pretty easy to fix.

Makeup artist Laura Kay warned against using an aging product on mature skin and offered up advice on what to use instead.

Kay, whose flagship clinic is in Radlett, England, has been in the beauty industry for over 20 years.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared makeup tips for a youthful appearance.

Skipping primer before applying makeup is a “frequent error” that dramatically alters the overall look.

“Primer is brilliant at helping to smooth out the skin’s texture and create a base for your makeup which can help reduce any movement or your foundation seeping into any cracks,” Kay said.

“Using a primer ensures that your makeup lasts longer, stays fresh, and maintains that youthful appearance throughout the day.”

She swears that applying primer is a beneficial step, especially for combination skin.

The product can help makeup to stay in place to look “put together” all day.

“Depending on your skin type, a matte-based primer can control oil in the T-zone,” she said.

“A hydrating primer can add moisture to drier areas, creating a smooth base for foundation.”

SEE, CC

Kay revealed that a “heavy foundation” isn’t always the best option for a youthful appearance.

She recommended swapping the item for a CC cream.

“CC creams combine skincare and makeup in one, making them very versatile and perfect for when you see your first signs of aging,” she said.

“Unlike heavy foundations, CC creams help conceal and camouflage signs of aging, such as fine lines, age spots, and wrinkles.

Avoid slathering on a foundation as this will make you look dull and draw attention to any imperfections.

“In addition, the product often contains SPF and has hydrating formulations that keep the skin looking fresh and dewy.

“To enhance a youthful look, it is key to hide any imperfections and lift any dark circles.”

NOT SO HEAVY

Heavy products can make the skin appear older by highlighting imperfections rather than smoothing them out.

“Light-textured products are the way to go and avoid slathering on a foundation as this will make you look dull and draw attention to any imperfections,” she said.

Kay previously shared tips for correcting eye makeup application.

She said to avoid putting eyeliner underneath the eye as it can make them look smaller.

A “lighter, powdery” eyeshadow can be used on the inner lid with darker shades on the outer part.

She added that fake eyelashes should be “avoided at all costs” as they can look too heavy on the face and age you.
